Professional development is a key component in our strategic plan of hiring the best and brightest seasonal staff at the Clyde York 4-H Center. It has often been said, if you can work at a 4-H summer camp, you can conquer the world. Summer camp work is not for everyone, but we can guarantee if it is for you, it will change your life forever. You will learn about yourself, your strengths, your weaknesses, and from this, will take life experiences that will serve you long past summer camp, far into your future. You will find your work at camp to be empowering as well as a confidence booster, and you will end the summer extremely proud of who you are and what you have to offer the world. A summer at 4-H camp is truly an experience you will never forget.

If you have a genuine interest in children, care about their development and growth, and if you’re truly excited about the opportunity to nurture boys and girls along their way to becoming strong, sound, healthy, happy adults, then we look forward to meeting you and working with you up on the beautiful Cumberland Plateau!

If you like working with youth then this is the perfect place for you! The camp staff are so friendly and welcoming, they became like my second family. I made so many friendships that have lasted outside of camp. Everyday seem like a different day and went by so fast, it didn’t even seem like I was working. My favorite part of this job was watching the kids go home at the end of the week with huge smiles on their faces because they had the best week ever! I also gained many professional and soft skills that have helped me build a strong foundation for my future career. For example one of the most prominent skills I gained was teamwork and communication with the other camp counselors.

I started this journey as a camper, then became a teen leader, and now I have progressed to a staff member. My favorite thing about being a staff member at Clyde York 4-H Center is how rewarding it is to see the impact 4-H and camp has on youth and the lifelong friendships with other staff that are made. 4-H has made such a huge impact on my life and I am honored to give back to something that gave me so much. Working at Clyde York 4-H Center has allowed me to impact others just like the staff did for me when I started attending summer camp in the 4th grade. I love this camp so much and I have never missed a summer since the 4th grade! If you are debating whether or not you want to work a summer, APPLY! I promise you from the bottom of my heart that you will not regret it!
